Youth Election Participants

Youth Election Participants

The Kansas City Election Board also accepts Poll Worker applicants from those aged 15 – 17. Youth Election Participants may work shorter shifts than other poll workers.

Qualifications

Missouri Law RSMo 115.104 states that Youth Election Participants must:

  1. – Have written permission from parent or legal guardian and a teacher/school admin.
  2. – Have demonstrated age-appropriate academic ability and demeanor
  3. – Be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
  4. – Not be related to candidates on the ballot, unless the candidate is unopposed
    1. – i.e. children, parents, grandchild, and sibling
  5. – Be at least 15 years of age and less than 18 years of age
  6. – Be a resident of Missouri
  7. – Be a full-time student in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade for the current academic school year
  8. – Ability to work one of the following shifts:
    1. – Morning: 5:00 am to 12:00 pm
    2. – Afternoon: 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm
    3. – Full Day: 5:00 am to 7:00 pm

Training

Youth Election Participants, just like Poll Workers, must attend a mandatory training class prior to each election.

Benefits + Hours

For working a full day, Youth Election Participants can get paid $300 or $150 for a half day. Alternatively, you can earn 18 service hours.
